Johanna Masko from The Workroom was our speaker at the London Friendship quilt guild last night. She was so inspiring and amazing and I loved listening to her speak. She showed us how to cut down on waste in your quilting while using all of your scraps efficiently.
One of the things she mentioned was the community of Gee’s Bend. Gee’s Bend is located in a small rural area southwest of Selma, Alabama. Over the course of two centuries they have developed a quilting style based on traditional patchwork quilts. Their quilts are known for the geometric simplicity while being bold and innovative. The quilts have been displayed at many museums across the country.
There is a documentary and many books written about Gee’s Bend. These are just a few of them.
Now to inspire you, some of the quilts of Gee’s Bend. Here is a great board on pintrest with Quilts by and inspired by Quilter’s of Gee’s Bend.
