Etsy Shop Featurette: Identity Metals

Posted on

Who loves jewelry? I know I do, especially fandom-inspired things. I have a TARDIS necklace that is just the best. So when I stumbled across this little Etsy shop, my eyes just about popped out of my head.

Identity Metals is run by Katie Hroncich and is all about hand stamped metals. Every piece is unique in the smallest way. Katie explains in her Etsy bio that hand stamping means that no two pieces will ever be aligned or straight and that the pressure of the stamp gives a different depth and alignment to all the characters. These pieces are truly original and best of all, they go with everything.

There are bracelets, necklaces, and earrings. Fandoms featured include Supernatural, Teen Wolf, Game of Thrones (I personally adore the Game of Thrones Inspired – Moon of my Life, Sun and Stars Keychains), The Walking Dead and more. The best part of Katie’s shop is that she does customized pieces as well.

I highly recommend this shop to anyone who loves to wear their fandom heart on their sleeve…or neck…or ears. You can browse through the wonderful items at Identity Metals here.

A Crowning Achievement

We’re at Wizard World St. Louis this weekend and there are some very lovely wares surrounding us in Artist’s Alley. One that caught my eye was a very shiny display that truly stood out from the crowd thanks to a very enthusiastic occupant. Roger Zimpel of Moria Silver comes from a long line of jewelry makers and while you would be hard pressed to miss his fantastic attitude, it’s also hard to miss the time and effort that goes into his work.

His lovely partner/webmistress, Judy, just cannot contain her enthusiasm either.

He uses the lost wax method to create wondrous crowns, rings, pendants, and a number of other beautiful wearables. The highlights at this convention, however, were definitely the crowns.

These unique creations come in an array of styles and colors with the possibility of adding a gemstone for a pop of color or certain mystical attributes.

This Rose Will Continue to Bloom

Posted on

It will bloom forever as it is frozen in time. Seriously. Argent Rose Studios is a personal favorite Ren Faire haunt of mine if only for the delicious smells. You see, they make metal roses of all shapes, colors, bud sizes, and SMELLS.

I assure you, these do not smell like metal.

I assure you, these do not smell like metal.

That’s right! The artists hand craft each and every one of these little beauties from steel. They are then expertly airbrushed, sealed, and daubed with rose (or other) scent hidden in a cleverly concealed sponge in the center. To renew the scent, you simply drip a little more oil onto the sponge and it smells like new! Truly, these are works of art. They have several bud “sizes” from just a bud to fully bloomed and in all colors of the rainbow. All of the colors are super vibrant and eye catching.

These are very likely to chase your blues away!

If a vase is not your style, what about a simple tabletop rose or some rose hair sticks?

I think my favorite part of heading to their booth each year is finding out what the new featured color/scent will be! Every year they have a featured collectable release scent and color. This year’s was called “Cherry Cordial” and it looked and smelled just like a luscious cherry candy.

Mouth-wateringly wonderful cherry.

These roses are great for gifts and will most certainly last longer than their real-life equivalents. If you would like to send an undying, sweet smelling pick-me-up, Argent Rose Studios can be found on their website and Facebook. I can’t wait to see next year’s new color and scent!

Burning your Scents

Posted on

Loosely keeping with yesterday’s post of burning things, I thought I’d take a different route today and showcase a different way to make your house smell lovely when you burn stuff. Via incense! Though really it’s just the excellent creative holders that I love.

This one by Steam-HeART imminently caught my eye since I love Steampunk aesthetics (though the spider legs creep me out a bit…) and it is sadly a one off piece the artist designed for themselves. Mostly due to the time/materials making the cost too high for retail. We can all still admire it though. 🙂

The style for this one is more traditional (long and flat for sticks), but man oh man ShirleysStudio gave it quite the epic fantasy makeover. The base if from the original burner but when it broke creativity struck. Their primary work is in these fantasy style creatures but this was a beautiful combination of piece and function.

While I know Halloween is over, that doesn’t mean I can’t still enjoy this witch oven. LongHomeFox designed it to burn incense cones instead of sticks so that it would look like a fire in an oven. Really cool idea and to wood carving it top notch here. Though the last one I found kinda wins for smoke use with it’s design…

I mean, come on. It’s a baby dragon that looks like it’s starting up some fire as it’s hatching. How cool is that?! 1stQueenOfHalloween did a phenomenal job sculpting this porcelain piece. Check out her deviantart post about it as she goes into detail bout how it was made and how it functions if you want more info. It’s really great stuff. 🙂
